Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22 June 2022, a forum on the topic "The role of women in the parliaments of Central Asian states in the implementation of national plans to combat terrorism and prevent violent extremism" began its work in Istanbul (Turkey).
The event was organized by the UN Center for Combating Terrorism under the UN Office for Combating Terrorism in cooperation with the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.
The forum is attended by women of the parliaments of five Central Asian states, including members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs and security services, international organizations and civil society.
The forum aims to intensify the efforts of women parliamentarians in Central Asia to prevent violent extremism.
During the event, issues of the UN architecture for combating terrorism and preventing violent extremism, gender issues in the process of combating terrorism and preventing violent extremism, issues of attracting women leaders and women parliamentarians in the context of combating terrorism and preventing violent extremism were considered.
During the forum, representatives of the Oliy Majlis paid special attention to the ongoing work in the country to ensure gender equality, empower women and girls, and provide comprehensive support to young people.
In addition, the experience of the Republic of Uzbekistan in returning from the war zones in the Middle East and Afghanistan to their homeland and rehabilitating their citizens, especially women and children, was especially noted.
