Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A preliminary design concept for the Great Silk Road Museum in Samarkand has been presented. The museum is located in the center of Samarkand - between University Boulevard and Bobur Mirzo Street, during its construction, special attention is paid to an inclusive environment.
This became known at a presentation in Tashkent with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism and Sports Aziz Abdukhakimov and Executive Director of the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts Gayane Umerova.
“It is important to note that the President of our country makes fundamental decisions reflected in a number of legal acts aimed at reforming and further developing the spheres of culture and art in Uzbekistan. One of the documents aimed at the practical implementation of these decisions is the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On carrying out comprehensive work to improve the infrastructure of the city of Samarkand in 2021-2022 and create conditions for the development of tourism”. In accordance with the resolution, the Art and Culture Development Foundation was entrusted with the creation of the Great Silk Road Museum in the city of Samarkand,” said Aziz Abdukhakimov.
The project is being implemented jointly with the Khokimiyat of Samarkand region. When creating the design concept of the project, the Foundation cooperates with the German architectural bureau Atelier Brookner GmbH.
According to the initial design concept developed, the appearance of the museum, which is planned to be built anew, as an element of a three-dimensional area in the form of a smooth silk ribbon reminiscent of the Silk Road, will continuously stretch throughout the building and cross the central square in the form of a ramp. In the center of the basement floor of the building there is an image of the city of Samarkand, and on the roof there are landscape elements that can be seen from all floors. Also, the area, resembling the original three "fingers" of the building, provides favorable spatial conditions for creating exhibition displays.
At the same time, in accordance with the interior design of the exhibition halls in the newly constructed museum buildings, the main exposition area, located on the top floor, passes through three “wings”, skirting the central open Atrium, in which three thematic zones are located at the end of each “wing”.
According to the concept, additional spaces on the lower floor of the building will be connected to central ramps leading to the exhibition on the upper floor, and the galleries will be divided into three thematic zones - "science and culture", "destination and landscape" and "export and import". Between these regions lies the center of the city of Samarkand - an intercultural intersection, and a large round showcase in this area allows you to showcase large collections.
When developing the concept of museum design, the Foundation also paid special attention to ensuring an inclusive environment. In particular, for the convenience and convenience of visitors, the museum has installed signs, applied a special approach to digital and architectural design.
At the same time, in order to make better use of the Museum Square, it is planned to increase the recreation areas on the roof of the museum, including more seating for visitors, as well as the expansion of the playground and garden. The main thing is to seriously take care not to damage the trees and adjacent buildings.
This project will be submitted for approval by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, since the territory of the city on which the construction of the facility is envisaged is included in the historical center of the city of Samarkand, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
