Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to the decision of the Special Commission, mandatory testing applies only to those arriving in Uzbekistan.
According to the protocol of the Special Republican Commission to Combat COVID-19 from 11 January 2022, due to the increase in the number of detected cases of coronavirus and the detection of the Omicron strain in Uzbekistan, it was decided to strengthen quarantine measures in the country.
In particular, from 15 January, the State Customs Committee, together with the Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare Service, will organize express testing points in the arrivals halls of all international airports in Uzbekistan. All arriving citizens will be required to undergo express testing for coronavirus. The cost for passing the test is set at the level of US$5 in the sum equivalent at the rate of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Students with a student ID card receive a 50% discount. People with disabilities of groups I and II take tests free of charge. Children under the age of two do not need to be tested for COVID.
“According to the decision of the Special Commission, all arriving in Uzbekistan will undergo mandatory express testing at airports. The tests will be carried out by the Central Laboratory of the State Customs Committee. All airports have special zones for this, strain barriers are installed, there are terminals for accepting card payments, ATMs for cash withdrawal and currency exchange points. Based on the capabilities of airports, testing zones are organized before or after passing through passport control,” said Javlon Umarkhojaev, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airports JSC.
Having paid and received a receipt, the passenger is sent directly for testing, after which a barcode is pasted on the passport. It takes about 15 minutes to get the test results. During this time, the passenger can have time to get luggage and go through customs control. Upon exiting the terminal, the barcode is scanned and the passenger receives the result of a rapid coronavirus test. In case of a positive test result, the passenger must be sent to isolation.
It is also worth noting that at the moment, the airlines still have a rule that a certificate of a negative PCR test result made no more than 48 hours ago is available before departure.
