Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The textile industry of Uzbekistan is an undoubted leader in production, attracting investment, creating new industries and jobs, providing employment for women and youth. Today, with the creation of favorable conditions for exporters by the Government, the textile industry also occupies a leading position in the export of products.
Despite the fact that 2020 was a pandemic year, the industry managed to sell products for export in the amount of US$1.9 billion. However, in just 8 months of 2021, the export of textiles added US$1.91 billion. The share in the total export of the country is 26%. By the end of the year, it is expected to reach the US$3.05 billion mark. On average, enterprises monthly export products worth US$238 million.
2021 has become one of the historic years. The year began with good news from the European Commission, whose decision from April unilaterally entered into force for Uzbekistan the GSP + system of preferences. This decision made it possible to open the gates to the European market, increase the competitiveness of textile products, as well as increase the interest of international brands and retailers in cooperation with textile companies in Uzbekistan.
For the first time, an open dialogue between the country's leadership and entrepreneurs took place. The President of the country personally discussed the problems with business representatives face to face. As a result, the Decree of the President of the country of 7 September 2021 "On additional measures to stimulate exporting enterprises" was signed, which simplified the system for exporting products.
These events had a positive effect on the expansion of the export geography. So, for January-September of this year, products were exported to 62 countries of the world, in total 74 countries.
At the moment, Russia remains the leader in the consumption of Uzbek textiles, its share in exports is 32.4% (US$619.1 million). The second and third places are occupied by China - 23.8% (455.5 million dollars) and Turkey - 13.6 (259.6 million dollars). Kyrgyzstan every year increases its share in exports -13.2% (251.6 million dollars). These countries account for 83% of total exports of about US$1.6 billion.
Stimulation of exporting enterprises allows every year to attract more and more enterprises of the industry to export activities. For example, in 2020, 977 enterprises exported their products, then by 2021 their number increased to 1196.
