Uzbekistan and Russia to continue to work to deepen industrial cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 23 June, Moscow hosted a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov with Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov.
The agenda of the talks included a wide range of industrial, investment, trade and economic issues. The parties noted the high activity of bilateral contacts at various levels, as well as the tangible progress achieved in the implementation of joint projects and initiatives. Thus, in particular, it was emphasized that as a result of the Innoprom exhibition held in Tashkent, agreements on the implementation of investment projects and trade contracts were signed for a total amount of more than US$3.2 billion.
A high assessment was given to the meeting of the Joint Commission at the level of the Heads of Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation. It was emphasized that the agreements reached and the signed interdepartmental documents will give a new impetus to the development of a multifaceted economic partnership between the two countries.
Issues related to the preparation of the economic agenda for the upcoming high-level visit to the Russian Federation were considered. In this vein, the parties agreed to intensify the joint work of relevant ministries and departments to work out new projects of industrial cooperation in order to reach firm investment agreements and trade contracts.
The parties will pay special attention to the activities of the Project Office, created between the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, whose forces are currently working on large projects in the fields of pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, machine-building, metallurgical and chemical industries.
Practical measures for the development of mutual trade were discussed, in the context of which the parties paid special attention to improving the system of technical regulation and standardization in Uzbekistan. In this regard, the prospects for attracting Russian experts for cooperation in this area were considered.
Following the talks, further steps were outlined to implement mutual agreements and promote joint projects and initiatives.
