Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 May 2021, the second ministerial meeting in the "China - Central Asia" format was held in Xi’an.
The event was attended by the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi, the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Tleuberdi, the Kyrgyz Republic R. Kazakbaev, the Republic of Tajikistan S. Mukhriddin, Turkmenistan R. Meredov and the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Kamilov.
The parties discussed topical issues of strengthening mutual trust, further promoting mutually beneficial cooperation, implementing joint projects, promoting transport connectivity and ensuring uninterrupted trade, deepening relations to ensure regional security and counter modern challenges and threats.
It was noted that an active dialogue between the states of Central Asia and China contributes to the further advancement of mutually beneficial cooperation, ensuring sustainable socio-economic development, makes it possible to develop measures to counter modern challenges and threats, and overcome the negative consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
The demand for widespread introduction of information technologies in the areas of transport and communications, trade, investment, energy, customs, tourism and education was emphasized.
Special attention was paid to improving the infrastructure and conditions for multimodal transportation, creating more favorable conditions for the integration of Central Asia into the system of global transport corridors.
In this context, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan called on the partners to support the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to create a Regional Center for the Development of Transport and Communication Interconnection under the auspices of the UN.
Attention was also drawn to the importance of interaction in the field of ecology, including within the framework of the Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region.
It was proposed to support the initiative of Uzbekistan on the adoption of a special resolution of the UN General Assembly on declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovations and technologies. To declare the day of its adoption - the International Day for the Protection and Restoration of Ecological Systems.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan supported the proposal to create an exchange mechanism between "think tanks" in order to provide intellectual support for cooperation within the framework of the "China - Central Asia" format.
It was noted that the International Institute of Central Asia, established in Tashkent at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, will take an active part in this work, which is developing recommendations to improve the effectiveness of regional cooperation.
Further promotion of cooperation between the regions of China and the states of Central Asia, representatives of business circles named as one of the important factors in realizing the existing potential of mutually beneficial partnership.
The ministers exchanged views on promoting the peace negotiation process on the Afghan issue, expressed a common interest in an early stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan and assistance to the socio-economic development of this country.
As a result of the event, a Memorandum was adopted on the creation of a format for meetings of foreign ministers "China - Central Asia", as well as Joint Statements on Afghanistan, on cooperation in combating COVID-19, and on further deepening interregional cooperation.
Director of the International Institute of Central Asia A. Nasirov also took part in this event.
