Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov met with Minister for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness of France Frank Riester in Tashkent.
During the meeting, a wide range of issues of political, investment, trade, economic, financial and technical cooperation were discussed.
It was noted that the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to France in October 2018 served as the basis for the transition to a fundamentally new level of the Uzbek-French partnership, and the timely implementation of the agreements reached during the visit is under the personal control of the heads of the two states.
The head of the French delegation, noting that the visit to Uzbekistan was his first foreign trip since the beginning of the pandemic, expressed commitment to strengthening bilateral partnerships and stressed the interest of French companies in expanding activities in the Uzbek market.
The current state and prospects for expanding cooperation in the investment sphere were comprehensively discussed. There was a positive trend in the implementation of large projects in geology, energy, agriculture, waste processing and tourism. An agreement was reached on organizing targeted negotiations between heads of relevant ministries, departments and private companies in the G2B and B2B formats to study new project proposals and conclude solid agreements on the implementation of new projects.
Significant potential for the development of cooperation was noted in the field of mutual trade - Uzbekistan's obtaining the status of a beneficiary of the EU Generalized System of Preferences "GSP +" opened up new opportunities for Uzbek producers of textile, agricultural and other products to enter the French market. In this vein, the French side highly appreciated the ongoing work on Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization, which will create additional prerequisites for increasing and diversifying the Uzbek-French trade turnover.
Special attention was paid to the area of financial and technical cooperation. The parties noted the successful interaction with the French Development Agency and welcomed the signing of a new Cooperation Program for 2021-2025. An agreement was reached to intensify negotiations with the French Development Agency on the implementation of new projects in the areas of water resources management, sanitation and animal husbandry.
They also highlighted the mutually beneficial partnership of Uzbek commercial banks with French banking and financial institutions such as Bpifrance, Credit Agricole and Société Générale, and considered the prospects for increasing funding to support small and medium-sized businesses in Uzbekistan.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to intensify interaction in all designated areas of cooperation by intensifying bilateral contacts at all levels.
