Uzbekistan 09/06/2009 Uzbekistan backs Obama’s call for interaction between US, Muslims
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan has noted the pragmatism of US President Barack Obama’s proposals to fine-tune relations between the United States and the Muslim world.

"Obama’s speech at the Cairo University confirms primarily the dominance of realism and pragmatism in foreign political approaches of the US administration. This is a call to tear the vicious circle of mistrust and confrontation with the Muslim world. This is a call to put an end to negative stereotypes about Islam, wherever they originate, and to give a broth to a new era of relations between the US and the Muslim world," the Uzbek Foreign Ministry’s Jahon news agency said in a statement on Tuesday.

"This is an aspiration to find new ways of interaction between the US and Muslims all over the world in the interests of peace, justice and progress," it reads.

"The pragmatism of the declared foreign political course in of the Obama administration its approaches to so-called the policy of ’democracy proliferation’ attracts attention," the statement reads.

The essence of new approaches to this problem is that the imposition of one’s values to other countries "with a totally different history and culture" is counterproductive, it reads.

"Such a sober and real approach to resolving such important problems today will undoubtedly echo in the international community," the statement reads.
