Senate Chairwoman meets with delegation of U.S. International Development Finance Corporation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1 July 2020, a meeting was held between Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and a delegation from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation led by chief executive officer Adam S. Boehler.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that further strengthening of relations between Uzbekistan and the United States is one of the priority areas of our state.
It was noted that in recent years there has been active dynamics in the development of bilateral inter-parliamentary relations. In many ways, this is facilitated by an open, constructive and pragmatic policy of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In addition, it was emphasized that much attention was paid to inter-parliamentary relations. An exchange of views took place on the further development of a constructive dialogue within the framework of the Parliamentary Group for Cooperation between Uzbekistan and the USA, “Caucus on Uzbekistan” of the US Congress, democratic reforms and the formation of civil society.
The parties discussed issues of expanding cooperation in the fields of trade and economy, finance, investment and modern technologies in the framework of bilateral relations
During the meeting, it was noted that Uzbekistan in the Doing Business ranking was among the twenty countries with the highest rate.
They also spoke about the role of women in the activities of the Senate and Parliament, the measures taken to strengthen the position of women in society and ensure gender equality in Uzbekistan.
At the same time, emphasis was placed on mutually beneficial areas of cooperation with the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, issues of counteracting forced labor and the prospects for joint work in this area.
In addition, suggestions were made regarding the development and implementation of a number of joint projects.
So, proposals have been made regarding the support of parliamentarism in order to further increase the role of parliament in solving problems in the socio-economic and socio-political life of the country, internships of members and employees of the parliament in the US Congress to study American experience, use innovative technologies by women who plan to start their own business in Uzbekistan, the development of women’s entrepreneurship in rural areas, the implementation of measures to combat violence against women and prevent trafficking in persons.
