Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan carried out comprehensive work to intensify investment activities in Namangan region.
The work carried out was structurally divided into two key areas: projects aimed at the development of entrepreneurship and home-based labor on the principles of cooperation and projects implemented as part of the regional integrated development program.
In the first direction, 157 new projects were developed with a total value of 2.2 trillion soums, which will be implemented, including by attracting funds from international financial institutions in the amount of US$103 million, with the employment of 18,400 people in the field of home work in such areas such as weaving, handicraft, horticulture, animal husbandry, poultry farming, beekeeping, gardening, jewelry, goat farming, woodworking.
As part of the regional integrated development program, 1,651 projects worth 8.3 trillion soums will be implemented, which will create 34.8 thousand jobs. The program provides for attracting foreign direct investment in the amount of US$369 million and loans of commercial banks in the amount of 1.9 trillion soums.
It should be noted that during the development of these projects, the strengths and weaknesses of the districts and cities of the region were studied in order to maximize the use of the region’s capabilities by identifying growth points - the "drivers" of economic development.
One of such “drivers” in the region is the textile industry, the level of technological development of which makes it possible to produce high-quality finished products that are in demand on the foreign market. In this case, special emphasis will be placed on increasing the added value sold for the export of textile products by establishing contacts with foreign brands in order to produce ready-made clothes under the brands of leading foreign companies - while it is planned to bring the level of cotton yarn processing in the region to 95%. Subsequently, a set of measures will also be implemented to create domestic brands and their promotion on foreign markets.
Also, in the near future it is planned to increase production and exports in the textile industry, for which, at the first stage, 100 hectares of land will be allocated in the Turakurgan region, where a specialized textile trade and industrial zone will be created.
In addition, a number of investment projects have been developed aimed at localization and import substitution in the areas of production of building materials, leather processing and the manufacture of finished shoes and leather products, mainly by creating cluster-type enterprises. Special attention will be paid to increasing production capacities for the production of building materials, in particular ceramics, and reducing their cost by introducing innovative technologies for the deep processing of minerals. For these purposes, the activities of relevant specialized scientific and technical centers will be activated through systematic financing of scientific developments with the involvement of specialized funds and foreign grants.
Taking into account the traditions of goat breeding historically established in the Papal and Chust districts of the Namangan Region, this direction will receive a new impetus for development - it is planned to implement investment projects to create production clusters for the processing of goat wool and the production of finished wool products with the prospect of their further export.
The implementation of 128 investment projects worth US$81 million will be aimed at moving from traditional to intensive gardening, which will significantly increase the economic efficiency of land use and reduce the cost of growing fruit crops in the region. A new approach will also be applied in this sector - the creation of export clusters consisting of large export farms, production facilities for processing and storage of products, logistics centers, as well as quality control and certification laboratories focused on specific export markets by attracting specialists and introducing standards the country where the delivery is planned. The total area of land allocated for the implementation of these projects will be 4.5 thousand hectares, while about 9 thousand jobs will be created.
Another “driver” that significantly reduces the time and financial costs associated with project implementation is the system of “package” support for entrepreneurs introduced by commercial banks. Under this approach, entrepreneurs will be provided with a full range of services, from the allocation of funds to training in the methods of conducting a particular type of activity and assistance in the preparation of documentation. In general, through the efforts of JSC “Uzniztsbank”, JSCB “Asaka Bank” and JSCB “Uzpromstroybank” 129 projects worth 2.4 trillion soums will be implemented with the creation of 7317 jobs.
The potential and experience of compatriots living and doing business abroad will be actively used to implement projects in the Namangan region - 17 projects worth US$247 million will be implemented in this direction.
In total in Namangan region in 2020-2021 due to the implementation of all investment programs and the use of the above “drivers” of economic development, 2,148 projects will be implemented with a total cost of 13.1 trillion soums, which will create more than 55 thousand new jobs.
