Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 November 2019, the X Asian Conference of the Valdai Discussion Club, organized in partnership with the Institute of Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, began in the complex of International Forums in Samarkand.
The event is attended by over 80 reputable experts from 11 countries, including Uzbekistan, Russia, China, Germany, Japan, Sweden, India, the Philippines, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Central Asia and Eurasia: Multilateral Cooperation Facing the Challenges of Global Disorder.” The club chose Uzbekistan, one of the leading countries of Central Asia, as the venue for the jubilee Xth Asian Conference. The policy of strengthening regional cooperation of the new President of the country, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, supported by the leaders of neighboring countries, radically changed the atmosphere of relations in Central Asia.
According to the program, on the first day of the conference, a meeting of experts was held in the framework of the special session “Uzbekistan - Russia” and was devoted to considering the prospects for the development of long-term relations between the two countries.
This year, representatives of Western countries take part in the Asian Valdai for the first time, among them: Corresponding Member of the Institute for the Study of Peace in Frankfurt, Hans-Joachim Spanger; Gregory Simons, Associate Professor, Institute of Russian and Eurasian Studies (IRES), Uppsala University; Scientific Director of the German-Russian Forum Alexander Rar. Representatives of major Asian nations include Sasakawa Peace Foundation Senior Research Fellow Taisuke Abiru; Jao Huasheng, Professor, Institute of International Studies, Fudan University; Executive Director of the Philippine Center for Futurology Alan Ortiz and others.
Before the meeting, a bilateral meeting was held between the Director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan E. Aripov and the Chairman of the Council of the Valdai International Discussion Club Development and Support Club A. Bystritsky.
At the talks, the parties agreed on cooperation between experts of the two countries and to increase the intensity of contacts in the field of studies of international and regional processes.
Representatives of intellectual circles from Uzbekistan will regularly participate in meetings of the Valdai International Discussion Club, as well as jointly organize subsequent targeted projects.
As a result of the negotiations, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies and the Valdai International Discussion Club Development and Support Fund.
