29/08/2019 17:01

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 29 August, within the framework of the visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov to Shenzhen, the Memorandum on the allocation of a soft loan of China to the development of the telecommunications network of UMS was signed.

A US$150 million loan will be used to finance UMS investment projects using Huawei equipment during 2020-2023.

We are talking about large-scale work to implement the third initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which involves organizing the effective use of computer technology and the Internet for the population and youth. For these purposes, technical and technological re-equipment of the mobile operator UMS will be carried out, the penetration of 4G/3G networks in all regions of the republic will be expanded, and 5G networks will be phased in.

This, in turn, will provide communications services to both densely populated areas and sparsely populated areas, including those located in mountainous areas. They plan to connect social facilities, such as educational institutions, medical institutions to the global Internet, which will accelerate the introduction of modern technologies in educational processes and the provision of medical care.

Since the beginning of this year, the UMS mobile operator has already begun large-scale work on upgrading networks and equipment, updating the billing system, and gradually expanding the external Internet channel. They are implemented within the framework of decrees and resolutions of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the Development Concept of Universal Mobile Systems for 2019-2021, developed jointly with specialists from the National Project Management Agency and the Digital Trust Development Support Fund for the Digital Economy.

The implementation of new investment projects will provide an additional incentive to expand and accelerate the implementation of the strategic plans of the company, increase its contribution to the development of the digital economy in Uzbekistan, implement social initiatives, and will also improve the quality of services for both existing and new subscribers.
