Uzbekistan to spend US$60m on drinking water supply projects for villages
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is planning to supply 890,200 people with pure drinking water in 2009 within the framework of the state programme "The Year of Development and Prosperity of Villages", which was approved by the president.

About US$60 million will be spent for this purpose, including 57.461 billion soums (over US$41 million) from the state budget.

About US$18.3 million loan from Asian Development Bank will also be used for pure drinking water project.

The Uzbek government, in February-November 2009, wants to improve the supply of drinking water in villages by building new sluices and networks of water pipes with a total length of 1,836 km (the project costs 36.260 billion soums that will be allocated from the state budget), reconstruction and repair of water supplying facilities in 304 villages of the country (the project costs 20.545 billion soums allocated from the state budget).

Several other projects on drinking water supply will be implemented in northwestern, central and southern regions of the country.
