Uzbekistan 05/02/2009 UNFPA in Uzbekistan receives award for supporting youth activities

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In January 2009, UNFPA, United Nations Population Fund in Uzbekistan, received an award entitled “Yoshlar Parvozi” (the Flight of Youth) during the Youth Media Forum dedicated to the results of the year 2008 (the Year of Youth).

The award established by the National Association of Electronic Mass Media (NAESMI), “Kelajak Ovozi” Youth Initiatives Centre, “Kamolot” Public Youth Movement, Journalists’ Creative Union and Bunyodkor Youth TV Club, was given to a number of Government and Non-Government organizations that made a significant contribution in further promoting youth issues in the country in 2008.

In 2008, UNFPA supported a number of important events and activities that brought together young journalists and youth activists from all regions of the country to discuss prospects of establishing youth TV studios, further development plans and increased promotion of healthy lifestyle among youth.

As its major activity, UNFPA contributed by building capacity of young journalists and activists on a wide-range promotion of healthy lifestyle through youth-oriented mass media products.

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, is an international development agency that promotes the right of every woman, man and child to enjoy a life of health and equal opportunity. UNFPA supports countries in using population data for policies and programs to reduce poverty and to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, every young person is free of HIV/AIDS, and every girl and woman is treated with dignity and respect.
