Upcoming presidential elections to be open and transparent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ensuring openness and transparency in all stages of the presidential elections will be main priority, head of the press service of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan Nizomiddin Nurmatov said.

He said that special attention will be paid to consistent and full coverage of the activities of election commission, creation of wide and equal opportunities to the presidential candidates in use of mass media.

He recalled that the CEC signed agreements with five Uzbek mass media with the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan National News Agency, Information Agency “Jahon”, the National Association of Electronic Mass Media, the Information Agency “UzReport” on covering the preparation and holding the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

CEC official said that the media will not only cover presidential elections, but also assist in explaining national election legislation to people, including Constitution.

He said that currently about 400 foreign and local mass media outlets received accreditation from the CEC.

Nizomiddin Nurmatov noted that Republican Press Center for covering elections of the President of Uzbekistan was created and it will create all conditions to provide information on elections to mass media.
