CEC issues mandates to OSCE/ODIHR observers
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan registered observers of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and issued mandates to them, the press service of the CEC said.

The CEC held a meeting with the mission of the OSCE/ODIHR. The sides considered registration of observers.

The chairperson of the CEC briefed the guests on election campaign and election laws of Uzbekistan. The sides considered organization of activities of the OSCE/ODIHR observers in Uzbekistan.

It was noted that work of the OSCE/ODIHR mission will help to improve openness and transparency of election process in Uzbekistan and organization in line with international standards and norms.

Observers will assess the elections for their compliance with OSCE commitments, other international obligations and standards for democratic elections, as well as with national legislation. The mission will assess the legislative framework and its implementation, and will follow campaign activities, voter registration, the work of the election administration and relevant state bodies. The mission will also conduct comprehensive monitoring of the media.

As part of the observation process, the mission will meet with candidates and representatives from relevant authorities and political parties, as well as with representatives from the judiciary, civil society and the media.
