Petronas exits two PSAs in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Malaysia’s Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) exited two product sharing agreements (PSA) in Uzbekistan – on Baisun investment block and Ustyurt, Interfax reported quoting source in the government sources.

According to the source, Petroonas completed liquidation of two operating companies – Petronas Carigali (Baisun) Operating Company and Petronas Carigali (Urga) Operating Company, which worked in these projects and closed representative office in Uzbekistan.

The 25-year PSA on Urga, Kuanysh and Achkalaksk was signed in 2009. Investment in the project was to total US$539.74 million.

The Baisun PSA was signed in June 2010, after Petronas had already spent US$80 million on geological exploration work at the block. Investment under the PSA was estimated to total US$660 million. The project also covered construction of a gas treatment plant supplied from the Gajak field.

Uzbekistan cleared Petronas to bring in a co-investor to the Baisun PSA in 2010, and the next year the Malaysian company formed a consortium with Saudi Arabian Delta Oil Company to develop Baisun.

Its stake in the GTL plant construction is now Petronas’ sole remaining project in Uzbekistan.
