President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev signed the agreement on 14 June 2013 in Tashkent within the visit of the Kazakh leader to Uzbekistan.

Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed a law “On ratification of agreement on strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan (Tashkent, 14 June 2013)” in August 2013.

The agreement strengthens main principles and priority directions of bilateral cooperation in politics, trade-economic, transport-communication, cultural-humanitarian, ecologic and other areas.

The document affirms single agreed position on development of fair system of water use in Central Asia, envisaging solution of all water-energy issues, including construction of new hydro power stations at trans-boundary rivers based on generally accepted norms of international law and interests of all countries in the region.
