According to reports, Erkin Khalilov left the post of chairperson due to health problems and the plenary session elected Diloram Toshmukhamedova to the post of chairperson.
Diloram Toshmukhamedova earlier worked at deputy chairperson of the Legislative Chamber and her Adolat party nominated her to presidential elections, which was held on 23 December. She collected nearly 3% votes.
Toshmukhamedova became the first women speaker in Uzbekistan and Central Asia. Currently, Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan includes 21 women MPs, or 17.6% of total number of MPs in lower house of the parliament.
