Speaking at the session of Tashkent city council of deputies, Islam Kaimov said that works on reconstruction and improvement of the old city of Tashkent should be lifted to new level.

Uzbek President underlined that the document envisages measures on reconstruction, improvement and development of the old city, improvement of life standards, development of social, transport, engineering-communication infrastructure based on modern principles and norms of town-planning.

President Islam Karimov noted that two important issues should be solved. He said the first at reconstruction works, current state of road-transport infrastructure, level of supply of clean water, sewerage, heating and electricity should be taken into account.

Second, he said, the attention should be paid to issues on preserving peculiarity and traditions of national architecture, historic and architecture monuments, which contributed to development of Islamic and world civilization.

He added that these important directions based on modern town-planning norms should become basics for draft programme on development and improvement of Tashkent.
