Ecologic Movement of Uzbekistan presented at European Parliament
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Ecologic Movement of Uzbekistan held a presentation at the European Parliament, Jahon news agency reported.

The visit has been organized by Group of European Parliament on relations with countries of Central Asia and Mongolia at the assistance of the diplomatic mission of Uzbekistan in Belgium.

Representatives of European parliament, European Commission, the EU Institutes, experts of European Union and Belgium, diplomatic corps participated at the event.

Chairperson of the Ecologic Movement of Uzbekistan Bori Alihanov presented a report “rational use of water resources of trans-boundary rivers and problems of security in the region of Central Asia and Kazakhstan”.

The participants were informed about ecologic problems in Uzbekistan and the region, consequences of Aral disaster, and others. Uzbek delegation expressed concern over construction of Rogun hydro power station in Tajikistan, which aggravates ecologic situation in the region.

Bori Alihanov also expressed concerns with worsening ecologic situation in the regions of Uzbekistan, which are bordered with Tajikistan as Tajik Aluminum Plant (TALKO) emits dangerous emissions to atmosphere. He also said that construction of Rogun hydro power station will worsen ecologic situation in the region.

Elisabeth Jeggle, Member of European Parliament from Germany, said that preserving Aral Sea is in interest of the region, European and Asia States as it is global catastrophe.

She underlined that Amudarya and Syrdarya play important role in life of population of Central Asia and Kazakhstan. She also supported position of Uzbekistan on construction of Rogun hydro power station.

MEP Paolo Bartolozzi said that MEPs are concerned with ecologic problem of Central Asia and Kazakhstan. He said that all countries of the region should boost work on use of water resources. He said that the European Parliament develops its position on the issue.
