Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan participated at the Sixth Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) of the "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue in Tokyo, Japan. Representatives of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Japan participated at the meeting.

During the meeting, the participants considered priority directions of developing regional cooperation in partnership with Japan, including in such areas as trade and investment, regional security, fighting extremism and drug trafficking, transport and communication, energy, healthcare and environment protection, and joint participation in rehabilitation of Afghanistan.

The Uzbek side noted that it is necessary to boost interaction with Japan in implementation of middle- and long-term programme of development of regional cooperation in perspective areas, which will serve sustainable and gradual development of Central Asia and Kazakhstan.

The participants of the dialogue held meetings with the Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba.

After the discussions, the participants adopted a decision to hold the Fourth Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue in Tokyo in 2012.

Within the visit, the delegation of Uzbekistan held next round of political consultations between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Japan.

The sides exchanged opinion on current state and perspectives of bilateral cooperation in politics, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres in context of implementation of agreements, reached during the official visit of Uzbek President Islam Karimov to Japan in February 2011.
