Alexander Moynov said that Chevrolet Cobalt is designed for emerging markets, first of all in Russia, Brazil, India, China and South Korea. New model will significantly differ from Cobalt of the US model.
“We are planning to organize full production of new model there in 2013. The development plans of Russia are approved. Besides, Cobalt is mass model, which requires large capacities, which Russia does not have. GM Uzbekistan has capacities. Besides, the production three is cheaper and taking into account localization, we can import cars to Russia without duties,” he said.
The concept of the model has been presented at motor show in Buenos Aires. The size of Cobalt is between models of Aveo and Cruze.
The length of sedan is 4,479 mm, while wheelbase is 2,620 mm. The width is 1,735 mm and the height is 1,514 mm. The boot size is 562 liters.
Cobalt will be sold globally offering buyers a choice of four cylinder engines ranging in displacement from 1.3 to 1.8 liters, with automatic and manual transmissions, running on ethanol (flex fuel), gasoline or diesel.
As reported earlier, GM Uzbekistan will start production of new model of automobile under code name of GSVEM in 2012.
The company will launch production of new car within the programme on localization of production of ready products, spare parts and materials based on industrial cooperation for 2011-2013.
The programme was approved by the presidential resolution “On measures on further deepening localization of ready products, spare parts and materials based on industrial cooperation for 2011-2013”.
According to the programme, GM Uzbekistan will produce 8,000 cars of new model for US$52.39 million in 2012 and 80,000 cars for US$523.357 million in 2013.
