Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Held for the third time in Uzbekistan since September of 2010, the Human Development Summer School included intensive seven week long on-line module with 10 topics discussed by 60 participants and forum moderators, and in-residence module conducted outside of Tashkent, UNDP said in a press release.

The on –line module of Summer school was conducted in July-August in partnership with the Virtual School of UNDP in Latin America and the Caribbean, which is the first UN learning platform to train UN counterparts on UN paradigms. Each topic of the on-line module was also provided with the text of lectures, additional literature, tests for self examination, and a special forum to discuss topic related details with other participants. Professional lectors, including international experts moderated forums and assessed activity of participants and quality of posted responses. The participation level ranged from ordinary students to working professionals both from the city of Tashkent and regions. “I am lucky to participate in human development school second time in a row, and what I really like is that this school provides us with new and most applicable knowledge. Last time, I was able to learn about Devinfo programme and actually used statistical data during my academic studies, whereas, this time, I learned about the concept of social inclusion and exclusion”, says Humoyunmirzo Abdujabbarov, a second course student of Management Development Institute of Singapore in Tashkent.

To solidify acquired knowledge, upon completion of the on-line module, participants passed tests and prepared case studies assessed by respective group of experts. The best 19 participants were selected to attend the in-residence module with a purpose of exchanging ideas in the form of live discussions and interactively designed modules.

“We try to bring fresh and innovative approach, share, and promote both experience and knowledge in teaching human development concept along with addressing discussed topics in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and national development priorities of Uzbekistan. This year, we partnered with the Virtual School of UNDP in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as invited experts from UNDP projects in Uzbekistan to facilitate forum topics”, said Elena-Danilova-Cross, UNDP Human Development Coordinator in Uzbekistan.

Human development is the expansion of people’s freedoms to live long, healthy and creative lives; to advance other goals they have reason to value; and to engage actively in shaping development equitably and sustainably on a shared planet. People are both the beneficiaries and the drivers of human development, as individuals and in groups.
