Over 28,54m people live in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Number of the resident population of Uzbekistan made up 28.54 million persons as of 1 April 2011, the State Statistics Committee said based on its records.

The Uzbek State Statistics Committee said that some 14.658 million persons or 51.4% of the population lived in city settlements.

In January-March 2011, the birth rate made up 17.4 pro mil and decreased by 1.3 pro mil in comparison with the corresponding period of 2010 (18.7 pro mil).

In the reporting period the death rate was 4.6 pro mil or increased by 0.3 pro mil compared to the same period of 2010.

Out of the total number of the dead, 62.8% died of cardiovascular diseases, 6.7% – neoplasms, 4.8% - accidents, poisonings and traumas, and 5.6% - respiratory diseases.

According to the preliminary data, 1,700 children died at the age under one year in January-March 2011. The infant mortality rate decreased from 12.3 pro mil in January-March 2010 to 10.7 pro mil in January-March 2011.

Out of the total number of children died at the age under one year, about 46.3% died of states occurring in perinatal period, 36.3% - respiratory diseases, 7.1% - congenital anomalies and 4% - infectious and parasitic diseases.

In January-March 2011, 56,700 marriages and 4,400 divorces were registered in Uzbekistan. There were 8 marriages (in 2010 – 7.7) and 0.6 divorces (in 2010 – 0.6) per 1000 population.

According to the preliminary data, the number of immigrants made up 33,200 in the first quarter of 2011. The arrival rate per 1000 population has decreased from 5.4 pro mil to 4.7 pro mil. The decrease was observed in all regions of Uzbekistan, excluding Ferghana region (from 4.2 to 4.5 pro mil).

In January-March 2011 the number of emigrants reached 37,000 persons. The departure rate per 1000 population has decreased in all regions – from 6.1 and 5.2 pro mil. The balance of migration was minus 3,800 versus minus 5,100 in the corresponding period of 2010.

According to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan from 14 March, 2011 №71 “On measures for preparing and conducting sampling survey of population” a statistical sampling survey of population took place on 21-30 April in each district and city of Uzbekistan with a coverage of 10% of population. The results of the survey will be used for checking statistical data on number of population and other demographic indicators.
