Sports 19/09/2007 Poutchek, Amanmuradova advance in Sunfeast Open tennis
Belarus’ Tatiana Poutchek caused an upset by defeating fifth seed Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the WTA Tour’s Sunfeast Open on Tuesday.

Poutchek dominated the game and took 89 minutes to beat her fancied rival.
She will now take on the winner of another first round match between Alberta Brianti of Italy and Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden.

Also Tuesday, Edina Gallovits of Romania conceded her first round match to Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan because of a sprain she suffered in her left thigh during the first set which she lost 2-6.

Earlier, Poutchek broke the Russian’s serve in the fourth game and then held her own to win the first set comfortably 6-3.

The fifth seed began poorly by losing the first game in the second set. However, Kudryavtseva kept her hopes alive by drawing level in the fourth game. Poutchek broke her opponent’s serve in the 7th and 9th games to win the second set by an identical margin.

Russia’s Anastasia Rodionova and Hana Sromova of Czech traded service breaks in the first set.

Rodionova broke Sromova’s serve in the 1st, 3rd and 5th games. The Czech fought back in the 4th and 6th games. Rodionova then broke Sromova’s serve again in the 9th game to win the first set 6-3.

The second set saw Rodionova taking a 5-1 lead, breaking Sromova’s serve in the 2nd and 6th games. The Czech girl then broke the Russian’s serve in the 7th game, but lost her own serve in the next game to lose the set 2-6.
