New biometric passports to be changes each 10 years
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- New biometric passports, which are introduced in Uzbekistan, will be changed each 10 years, Department of entry, departure and registration of citizenship of Uzbekistan Interior Ministry said.

Earlier, the passports in Uzbekistan issued at the age of 16, 25, and 45 and after 45 the passports become permanent. Currently, in line with ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) requirements, each travel document should be issued for fixed term and it cannot be permanent. So, citizens of Uzbekistan will change their bio-passports each ten years.

According to experts, Uzbekistan will introduce three types of documents with electronic carriers. They are diplomatic passports, which will be issued by divisions of Uzbekistan Foreign Affairs Ministry, and citizens, issued by the Uzbekistan Interior Ministry. Uzbekistan will also issue special travel documents for people without citizenship, who has permanent registration or residence permit in territory of the country.

Introduction of passports will be carried out in two stages. In the first stage in 2011, the passports will be issued to servants of ministries and departments, as well as citizens, travelling abroad. At the same time, citizens, who apply to bodies on entry, departure and registration of citizenship to change passport and those who reached definite age. In the second stage (2012-2015), new biometric passports can receive all citizens of Uzbekistan in established order.

Cover page of new biometric passports will have symbol, indicating that passports have electronic data. If earlier the first three pages were in Cyrillic, now all pages will be in Latin, except third page, which will be in English.

Laminating film will be thinner – from 170 micron to 70. Images now will be printed to the passport, not stuck as earlier. Last cover page will include microchip, which will store all data of passport and finger-prints. It will be impossible to falsify such passport. The number of passport pages will be increased as more visa pages will be added.

The biometric passport is a combined paper and electronic identity document that uses biometrics to authenticate the identity of travelers.
