Experience of Uzbekistan on formation of civil society highly rated in Japan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Experts of Japan and Uzbekistan exchanged opinion on formation of strong civil society, support of activities of NGOs, increasing their role in democratic modernization of the country.

Japan hosted an Uzbek-Japanese conference “Expereince of Uzbekistan and Japan in formation of civil society” and series of seminars, organized at leading universities of the country.

The events were organized by Institute on studying civil society in cooperation with Tsukuba University, Juntendo University, Embassy of Uzbekistan in Japan and OSCE Office in Tashkent. Representatives of Japanese parliament, political parties and public organizations, research centers of Japan participated at the events.

During the discussions, it was said that concept on further deepening democratic reforms and formation of civil society, proposed by the Uzbek President, has significant importance in raising role of parliament, NGOs in modernization of the society and the country. Experts noted that Uzbekistan has unique experience of reforming state and society, ensuring stability and security of the country and the region as a whole.

MP Nakayama said that it was useful for the Japanese side to familiarize with structural activity of public organization and functioning of local bodies in Uzbekistan. He said that Japan should learn from Uzbekistan for further developing of Japan.

MP Ishikava said that formation of civil society is long process and it has evolutional character. Compared to other Central Asian states, Uzbekistan led by President Islam Karimov is developing stably and strengthening role of civil society, political parties, continues liberalization of political system of the country. He added that Japan should learn purposefulness of Uzbekistan.

Discussing trans-boundary ecological problems of Central Asia and issues on use of international mechanisms for their solving, parliamentarians and experts of Japan underlined their support of the Uzbek side’s position on rational and fair use of trans-boundary water resources, keeping fragile ecologic balance in the region.

It was noted that Uzbekistan is a state, which not only attracts attention of international community to ecological problems, but also adopts gradual measures to solve them and ensure sustainable development of the region.
