Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First round of political consultations between Foreign Affairs Ministries of Uzbekistan and Thailand was held in Bangkok on 15 December 2010, the Uzbek ministry said in press release. The Uzbek delegation was received by Thailand Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya.

The sides exchanged opinion on modern situation and perspectives of bilateral cooperation in politics, trade-economic, financial-investment and cultural-humanitarian spheres, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest. In particular, the sides discussed issues of keeping peace and stability in Central Asian, ecologic threats in context of trans-boundary contradictions on water-energy issues.

The sides critically rated current state of trade-economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Thailand, perspectives of development of investment interaction.

Thailand Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya underlined that Bangkok considers Uzbekistan as important partner in Central Asian and welcomes strengthening of current level of relations between two countries, interaction within international organizations.

The sides agreed that organization of visits at high level will lift bilateral cooperation at new level, give important impulse to establishment and development of partnership in political, trade-economic and investment spheres.

The sides noted that the second round of political consultations in Tashkent in 2011 and the second session of inter-governmental commission on trade-economic cooperation in Bangkok next year will be important step on diversification of economic relations and implementation of large joint projects.

During the consultations, the sides discussed issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation. The sides noted development of interaction and exchange of experience between parliaments of Uzbekistan and Thailand, directed at boosting relations as a whole.

Thai side expressed gratitude for assistance in organization of visit of the Committee on internal administration of Thailand Senate to Uzbekistan on 23-30 November 2010.

Thailand companies expressed interest in participation in projects at Navoi free industrial-economic zone, in energy projects, expanding trade and investment cooperation. The sides expressed mutual interest in cooperation in tourism through exchange of experience and internships, as well as seminars.

The sides positively rated cooperation in cultural-humanitarian sphere. The Uzbek side expressed gratitude to the Thai government for inclusion of Uzbekistan to the list of countries, citizens of which can receive tourism visas for 15 days at arrival to Thailand, as well as opening of Honourable Consulate Office in Tashkent, which started work in October 2010.

After the talks, the sides agreed to hold next round of political consultations between Foreign Affairs Ministries in Tashkent in 2011.

On the same, the Uzbek delegation participated at the Third Asia-Middle East Dialogue Ministerial Meeting. The head of the delegation delivered a speech on efforts of Uzbekistan on ensuring security, peace and stability in Central Asia.

It was noted that ensuring peace and sustainable development in the region and Asia is priority directions of foreign policy of Uzbekistan and to implement these tasks, Tashkent supports gradual increasing role of Asia-Middle East Dialogue. Today, Asian countries realize necessity of close interaction and consolidation of efforts against modern threats and challenges based on mutual understanding and respect.
