Foundary-mechanical plant’s reconstruction starts
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Specialists of subsidiary enterprise Liteyno-mehanicheskiy zavod (Foundary-mechanical plant), which is part of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari, are completing a development of business plan and feasibility study of the project on construction of new modern foundary production.

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari press service said that it is planned to hold a tender on selection of contractor for execution of works on reconstruction foundary capacities. On the results of the tender, the plant is planning to purchase modern foundary equipment from Russia and Ukraine.

In perspective, Liteyno-mehanicheskiy zavod will became the only large foundary plant in Uzbekistan. The enterprise will cast spare parts for hopper cars, which is used to cement and other bulk materials transportation.

The reconstruction of the plant, started in line with presidential resolution, will last till 2016. In line with the business-plan, new capacities will allow to produce 1,200 freight cars a year, including 650 covered wagon and 170 hopper cars. From 2011, the enterprise is planning to expand foundary capacities on production of spare parts for cars and railways, as well as start to export products.

The main goal of the reconstruction of the plant is creation of capacities on production of casted half finish products on closed technological circle with use of modern equipment and advanced technologies. After the reconstruction ends, it is forecasted that core-mold casting will reach 15,200 tonnes a year, cast-iron casting – 10,800 tonnes and nonferrous castings – 500 tonnes.

The project is carried out in cooperation with the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan, which allocated loan for US$80 million for the plant’s reconstruction. Currently, the selection of equipment and open tenders are underway. It is expected that the plant will carry out all production circle of freight wagons will be carried out with own forces and spare parts, produced at the plant from 2011.

The plant modernization will allow to increase production volume and cut imports. From 2011, Uzbekistan will stop import of expensive casting materials and spare parts for wagons.

The plant carried our repair and modernization of 139 freight wagons of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari in 2009. It also produced 70 gondola cars and 95 covered wagon.

Liteyno-mehanicheskiy zavod was founded in October 2003 on the base of Irgidromash Plant under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan.
