The rallies and pickets were aimed at attracting attention of international community and the Government of Tajikistan to economic problems in Sariosiyo, Uzun, Denau, Altynsay and other districts of Surkhandarya region due to negative impact of industrial emissions of Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO).

Over 1,400 citizens of Surkhandarya region participated in rallies and pickets with posters and slogans like “We fight for clean environment!”, “Damage to nature – damage to future!”, “We request international ecologic expertise of Tajik Aluminum Company!”

People in Sariosiyo district said that the toxic smoke comes from the plan comes to the district, which is the most affected by TALCO emissions, with the wind during 18-19 hours each day. They called adopt immediate measures to decrease the growth of diseases related with emissions of the Tajik plant.

Participants wrote their requests in the letter to the UN General Assembly and other international organizations.
