Posco reconstructs road in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- South Korea’s Posco Engineering completed reconstruction of a line of road Guzar-Bukhara-Nukus-Beinau (A-380) with the cost of about US$40 million, RIA Novosti reported.

Within the project, Korean company reconstructed four-lane road with cement-concrete pavement with total extension of 91 km.

The project was financed due to loans of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for US$75.3 million, allocated to the Government of Uzbekistan in April 2008.

The project with total cost of US$173.5 million envisaged reconstruction of 131 km of roads, in two areas with extension of 91 km and 40 km in Karakalpakstan, northern-western Uzbekistan.

In early March 2012, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) completed reconstruction of road with extension of 40 km. In April-May, the Uzbek side will complete its part of woks and the project will be fully implemented.

A-380 highway with extension of 1,204 km is part of transit corridor, which links Uzbekistan with Afghanistan and Turkmenistan in south and Kazakhstan in north.

As earlier reported, the ADB allocated US$600 million of multitranche financing facility to construct road, which will link Uzbekistan with neighbouring states. The objectives are to reconstruct over 220 kilometers of the A380 highway, and to provide training support for improved planning, project management, road asset management, and community facilities.
