Polish-Uzbek trade turnover overcomes negative trends of last year
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Negative factors of global foreign trade trends affected mutual trade between Poland and Uzbekistan, head of the Department on assisting trade and investment of Poland Embassy in Tashkent Slawomir Strzalkowski said.

Slawomir Strzalkowski said that according to Polish statistics, trade turnover between two countries made up US$97.5 million in 2009, which is down by 34% year-on-year.

Exports of Poland made up US$68.5 million, or 77% less year-on-year, while imports from Uzbekistan decreased almost twice to US$29 million in the reporting period, he said.

Strzalkowski said that the volume of mutual trade for the first months of 2010 encourages and it allows to state that the negative trends of last year were successfully overcame.

Polish diplomat said trade turnover between Poland and Uzbekistan comprised US$37 million in line with preliminary data for the first quarter of 2010. He added that the growth was achieved mainly due to rise of Uzbek exports to Poland. Poland’s exports to Uzbekistan rose by about 7%, imports from Uzbekistan increased by 2.2 times, he underlined.

Supply of mineral products, chemical goods, cotton-fiber and cotton products to Poland grew several times. Poland increased imports of ready products, mineral products, chemical goods, wood products and other goods to Uzbekistan.

Slawomir Strzalkowski underlined that the Polish-Uzbek intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation will held its third meeting in September or October 2010. He said the group of experts from Poland Economy Ministry will arrive in Uzbekistan this week.

The delegation will discuss with their Uzbek colleagues the results of the second session of the Polish-Uzbek commission and preparation to the third session.
