Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- People’s poet of Uzbekistan, famous dramatist and translator Ramz Babajan died at the age of 87.

Ramz Babajan was born in 1921 in Tashkent. He studied at the Language and literature faculty of the Tashkent State Pedagogical University, UzA reported.

He began working at a youth newspaper, then worked as an editor at the radio, as a director of Literature and art publishing house, first vice-chairman of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan, and as a head of the Vatan society.

Ramz Babajan’s first book of poems was published in 1939. During about half a century of his creative work, nearly 30 books were published. His poems were translated into many languages.

As a translator, Ramz Babajan translated works of many world authors into Uzbek, in particular, poems and works Pushkin, Lermontov, Nekrasov, Tvardovskiy, Tikhonov, Ibsen, Mikhalkov and Khazri.

His great contribution to the development of Uzbek literature was worthily evaluated by the country. Ramz Babajan was awarded with the title of the People’s Poet of Uzbekistan and the order Country’s Honor.
