Plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis to be held on 17 March
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The latest meeting of the Kengash of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis was held under the chairmanship of Tanzila Narbayeva.
During the session, a resolution was adopted to convene the fifth plenary session of the Senate, which is scheduled to take place on 17 March 2025, via videoconference.
At the plenary session, senators will discuss a broad range of issues, including the tasks facing the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and local Kengashes of People’s Deputies, in line with the priority areas outlined by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the meeting of the National Council on Combating Corruption.
The agenda will include the review of legislative proposals such as the approval of the Water Code, agricultural risk insurance, and improvements to the system for satisfying the claims of secured creditors. Additionally, senators will discuss legislative initiatives aimed at developing the jewelry industry and enhancing the efficiency of public transport.
Particular attention will be given to laws designed to strengthen guarantees of judicial independence, protect citizens’ rights and freedoms, and prevent the use of torture against detainees.
As part of the session, the Oliy Majlis Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) and the Children’s Rights Commissioner (Children’s Ombudsman) will present reports on their activities in 2024.
Furthermore, the agenda includes issues related to the ratification of international treaties and the results of a parliamentary inquiry into the government’s handling of certain aspects of self-employment.
The matters under discussion are aimed at further strengthening the legal framework for protecting citizens’ honor, dignity, rights, and freedoms.
