Pilot container train set off on a new transit route between China and Afghanistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At a recent meeting of the Working Group, in particular, at a 4-sided meeting of representatives of the administrations of the railways of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan with the participation of a Chinese international logistics company, the parties agreed to speed up the supply process cargo from China to Afghanistan and the development of logistics infrastructure.

As agreed at the meeting, in order to develop the multimodal corridor China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan, a pilot launch of a container train was launched along the new transit route Kashgar-Osh-Andijan-Galaba-Hairatan.

At present, the first train consisting of 12 units of 40-foot containers is already on its way through the territory of our country along this route. By the way, Uzbekistan provided a 70% discount on transportation through the territory of our country. Tariff preferences up to 50% were provided by other participating countries.

The cargo includes food cargo, including household appliances and products for the needs of the national economy. The goods were formed into containers by the Chinese side, and at the Osh station (Kyrgyzstan), these containers were loaded onto fitting platforms belonging to the Republic of Uzbekistan. The arrival of the train to its final destination by rail is scheduled in two days. According to rough estimates, after working out all the nuances of the pilot project on this multimodal route, the cargo turnover in the direction of Afghanistan alone will be more than 4,000 containers per year.

It should be recalled that cargo transportation along the new multimodal corridor "China - Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan - Afghanistan" is carried out from the Kashgar railway station (China) to the Osh railway station (Kyrgyzstan) by road, and then to the Mazar-i-Sharif station (Afghanistan) through Uzbekistan via the railway line. It should be noted that on this route, the general forwarder in Uzbekistan is Uztemiryulkonteyner JSC.
