Photo exhibition ‘20 Years of Cooperation’ opens in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A photo exhibition “20 Years of Cooperation” dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s membership in the United Nations opened at the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan on 2 March.

On 2 March 1992, Uzbekistan became full-fledged member of the UN. On this day, flag of Uzbekistan was raised at the headquarters of the UN.

The UN Resident Coordinator Ms. Anita Nirody and Representatives of UN agencies, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Abdulaziz Komilov, and the President of the Academy of Science of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Shavkat Salikhov opened the exhibition.

Anita Nirody said that Uzbekistan and the UN implemented joint projects in various spheres in last 20 years in such areas as social-economic, science, education, culture, environment protection, healthcare and achieved great success.

In his turn, Abdulaziz Komilov expressed gratitude to Anita Nirody for organization of the exhibition, which reflects activities of the UN agencies in Uzbekistan.

The exhibition presented about 100 works, which were collected by the UN agencies, operation in Uzbekistan: UN Women, World Bank, UNICEF, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNAIDS, UNDP, UNODC, UN Volunteers.

Mr. Jaco Cilliers, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, said: “We are happy today to celebrate the 20th anniversary of full-fledged membership of Uzbekistan in the UN. The UN is proud with done work in cooperation with the Government and people of Uzbekistan in terms of supporting various areas from development areas through UNDP to working with children through UNICEF, preserving cultural heritage through UNESCO, etc.

He added that the UN will continue to work with Uzbekistan and in near future will support projects on development of economy and employment opportunities, healthcare and population. The UN also will support initiatives of the Government of Uzbekistan in reforming process.
