People’s Bank participates in World Institute of Saving Banks
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- State commercial People’s Bank of Uzbekistan participated at the work of the General Assembly and the 23rd Congress of the World Savings Banks Institute (WSBI), which was held in Morocco in May 2012.

The WSBI General Assembly elected Heinrich Haasis as the new president for 2012-2015. The Council of directors of the WSBI was elected for three year term.

The strategy of the WBIS, directed at strengthening as international organization, which help to develop economies of member states, was adopted.

Two new banks – Belarusank (Belarus) and Buskh Foundation (Pakistan) were accepted as new members. Now, the organization unites 113 banking institutions from 90 countries.

The delegation of People’s Bank participated in seminars within the WBIS – “Protection of clients from risks in crisis period”, “Access of small businesses to financial resources”, “Retail banking compared to corporate”, etc.

At the plenary session, it was noted that the WBIS became one of the key international organizations, which unite leading banking institutions, which can change approach and mechanism of attracting and managing savings of population, allocating to microloans to business development.

After the General Assembly session and the 23rd Congress of the WSIB, the Marrakesh Declaration “Banking Account for all” has been adopted.

Within the WSIB Congress, the delegation held several talks and negotiations with leading banking groups of Europe, Asia and Latin America, including ERSTE GROUP and Montepio. The sides discussed development of relations and signed memorandum of understanding.

The Uzbek delegation also held meeting with heads of banks from Malaysia, Indonesia and Chile. The sides discussed issues of developing cooperation between institutions.
