Passenger traffic at Samarkand Airport more than doubled in the first half of 2023

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The AIR MARAKANDA was established in 2020 to manage airports, provide services for providing services to passengers, baggage and airlines, handling cargo and mail, as well as technical and commercial maintenance of aircraft.

In order to implement these tasks, the company attracts local and foreign specialists with international experience in civil aviation.

It is important to note that Samarkand International Airport in the first half of 2023 exceeded the historical record and served 439,664 passengers, which is 121.4% or 241,080 passengers more than in the same period of last year. And at the end of 2022, Samarkand International Airport served 493,417 people, which is 2.6% more than in 2019. The increase in passenger traffic is directly related to the increase in the number of flights of existing carriers. This was also facilitated by the attraction of new partners:

this year, flights from Samarkand airport began to be operated by 2 foreign airlines Jazeera Airways and Pobeda, as well as one new regional carrier of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Silk Avia. Today, Silk Avia operates flights to Samarkand International Airport from Tashkent (5 times a week) and Bukhara (1 time per week).

An analysis of the growth in passenger traffic shows that the main focus is on international destinations. The most popular flights in the first half of 2023 were flights from Samarkand to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Istanbul, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The total number of passengers served on these flights was 393,689 (+116.9%).

The volume of traffic on domestic airlines for the first half of the year amounted to 45,975 passengers (+169.7%), and Tashkent became the most popular domestic destination.

In turn, the national carrier of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan Airways, retained its leading position in terms of passenger traffic to Samarkand Airport with a share of 27%, which amounted to 120,492 passengers.

Since the beginning of 2023, Samarkand International Airport has expanded its route network, and in just the first half of the year, flights from Samarkand were operated on 6 domestic and 18 international routes. Of these, Tel Aviv, Kuwait, Mineralnye Vody, Ufa and Samara have become new destinations, opened for the first time.

It is worth noting that AIR MARAKANDA pays special attention to the main strategic areas, namely: compliance with international aviation security requirements, the implementation of measures that contribute to environmental protection, the modernization of airport infrastructure, improving the level of passenger service, etc.
