Parliaments of Uzbekistan and Great Britain ink memorandum of understanding
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Group of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan on cooperation with Parliament of Great Britain and All-Party Group Britain-Uzbekistan of the British Parliament signed a memorandum of understanding in Tashkent on 22 September 2010.

The document was inked after the completion of the meeting between the delegation of British Parliament led by Lord John Waverley and Speaker of the Senate of Oliy Majlis Ilgizar Sobirov.

The memorandum envisages further broadening and strengthening relations between parliaments of two countries, active development of political, economic and social interaction.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of further developing inter-parliamentary cooperation. The guests familiarized themselves with the activity of bicameral parliament of Uzbekistan.

The British delegation also held negotiations with the Speaker of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Dilorom Tashmuhamedova. The sides exchanged opinion on mutual cooperation between legislative bodies of two states.

Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Great Britain made up US$173.7 million in 2009. Currently, over 200 companies with British investments operate in Uzbekistan. Over 50 firms and companies of Great Britain opened their offices in Uzbekistan.
