Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Parliamentary elections started in Kyrgyzstan. Polling stations opened in the country today at 8:00 am. One of the first to vote were President Sadyr Japarov and his wife. 

“I ask Kyrgyzstanis to take an active part in the electoral process. The future of Kyrgyzstanis and our children depends on your choice,” the president urged.

After the vote, Japarov flew to Ashgabat for the 15th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

The head of the Security Council, Marat Imankulov, also called on to actively participate in the elections. He assured that this time the elections will be without administrative resources and the compulsory participation of state employees in them and urged not to sell votes.

“We have banned the use of employees of budgetary organizations and civil servants in the pre-election process. The administrative resource will not be used in today's elections. This time, officials were detained, who, as before, tried to use the administrative resource. I urge people not to sell votes. Do you think a person who came to parliament through bribery will work well? I also urge the Kyrgyz people to choose their civil position correctly and vote on principle, and not be sold for some 2-3 thousand soms. Nobody has the right to tell you who to vote for,” he said at a press conference.

Elections in Kyrgyzstan this time are held according to a mixed electoral system: 54 deputies will be elected according to the proportional system in a single electoral district, and 34 - according to the majority system in separate electoral districts. More than 1,300 people apply for 90 seats in the Jogorku Kenesh.

The first attempt to elect the seventh convocation of parliament in Kyrgyzstan in October 2020 ended with rallies, cancellation of election results, riots, political crisis, change of government and the Constitution. On the eve of the second elections to the seventh convocation, a group was also detained, which, according to the State Committee for National Security, was preparing riots and a violent seizure of power.

This time, 736 international observers from 14 electoral organizations abroad, 20 international organizations and 19 diplomatic missions will follow the elections.
