Paris Agreement: within the framework of the Clean Development Mechanism, an exchange of views on cooperation issues takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 June, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan with representatives of American companies Gas Green Asia and Ecoeye Co Ltd.

At the event, the areas of cooperation set out in Chapter 6, Article 4 of the Paris Agreement, as well as the issues of transferring projects implemented under the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to the mechanism provided for in Article 6 of the Paris Agreement were discussed with representatives of the company.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Head of the Department for Supporting the Implementation of the "Green" and Cognitive Economy, Innovative Technologies Sh. Islamov and specialists of the structure, as well as the head of the international business development department of Gas Green Asia Banerji Sandilo, director of Ecoeye Co. LTD Ri Su Bok, Deputy Director Kha Sang Sung and other specialists.

During the negotiations, remarks were made on the greenhouse gas emission reduction project implemented jointly by Gas Green Asia and Khududgaztaminot.

The Paris Agreement was adopted on 12 December 2015 in Paris at the 21st session of the conference on the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change, in order to prevent the growing global threats associated with climate change. Currently, 180 countries are parties to the Paris Agreement. On 19 April 2017, Uzbekistan signed the Paris Agreement at the UN Headquarters in New York. Participation in the Paris Agreement is an indicator of attracting investment resources, as well as loans from international financial institutions and donor countries.

This agreement provides a number of opportunities for Uzbekistan. In particular, when implementing state energy efficiency and energy saving programs, such as attracting climate financial resources (mainly grants), developing renewable energy sources, improving land and water management, combating negative environmental consequences (Island tragedy, desertification, drought), etc.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to explore the possibilities of expanding cooperation in this direction.
