Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Olympic Games in Paris have concluded, and Uzbekistan’s national team has delivered its best performance in the country’s history.
Uzbek athletes won 8 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals. This total matches the medal count from the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics, but with a significant improvement in the number of gold medals—4 in Rio compared to 8 in Paris.
Uzbekistan secured 13th place in the overall medal standings.
Uzbekistan also took first place in the medal standings among CIS and Central Asian countries and ranked 4th in Asia.
Paris 2024 saw several historic achievements as well.
Diyora Keldiyorova became the first woman in Uzbekistan’s history to win an Olympic gold medal in judo.
Svetlana Osipova became the first woman from Uzbekistan to win a silver medal in Olympic taekwondo.
Uzbek boxers set a new record: five athletes reached the finals, and all of them became Olympic champions.
Hasanboy Dusmatov and Bakhodir Jalolov became two-time Olympic champions, while taekwondo athlete Ulugbek Rashitov successfully defended his Olympic title.
Additionally, Uzbekistan’s national football team made its debut in the Olympic finals but was unable to advance beyond the group stage, earning only 1 point.
