Panel discussion "Demographic dividend and human capital: from risks to opportunities"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Within the framework of the Economic Forum of Uzbekistan 2022, a discussion "Demographic dividend and human capital: from risks to opportunities" was held, where Uzbekistan’s ambitious plans to maximize the use of the said dividend through the development of education and training, healthcare were considered and social protection of vulnerable segments of the population.

Among the priorities of the reforms are the improvement of the training infrastructure, the modernization of teaching methods and the country’s entry into the world top 30 in this area. This is necessary for the qualitative preparation of a new generation of personnel for the requirements of the economy in this century. Education reform is high on Uzbekistan’s agenda as it aims to give a young and growing population the tools they need to compete and thrive in the global economy.

During the session, experts exchanged views on the importance of improving the quality of basic education (curriculum, delivery, teacher training), opportunities, constraints, way forward, ways to promote skills development for future jobs (green, digital, soft), integrated implementation of social protection policies, employment, education and health to address the structural causes of poverty and social exclusion.

In addition, the participants discussed the provision of an education and training system that facilitates the employment of the unemployed at home and abroad by doubling the potential for skills development and training by 2026, introducing and strengthening professional programs and practical skills to train engineers, technicians and other workers. mid-level, building housing for more than 275,000 families under government programs and implementing urbanization policies.

Relevant issues were considered at the session by the Ministers of Public Education and Health Bakhtiyor Saidov and Behzod Musaev, First Deputy Minister of Labor Erkin Mukhitdinov, UNFPA Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Florence Bauer, Head of the UNICEF Office in Uzbekistan Munir Mammadzade, leading specialists from UNDP and the World Bank.
