Pal Schmitt arrives in Tashkent with official visit
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Hungary Pal Schmitt arrived in Tashkent on 6 November 2011 with the official visit on invitation of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.

During three-day official visit, the Hungarian President will hold bilateral negotiations at high level.

Issues of expansion and strengthening of the cooperation between Uzbekistan and Hungary, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest will be considered during the visit.

On the result of the talks, it is expected that the sides will sign joint statement, which will outline perspectives of the Uzbek-Hungarian cooperation.

It is also planned to sign several intergovernmental, inter-departmental documents, covering political, trade-economic, investment, scientific-technical directions of bilateral ties.

The Hungarian delegation will also visit the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and familiarize with the sights of Tashkent and Bukhara.

A group of Hungarian businesses are accompanying President Pal Schmitt. It is planned that Hungarian businesses will hold talks with their Uzbek counterparts.

Hungary recognized independence of Uzbekistan on 26 December 1991. On 3 March 1992, the countries established diplomatic relations.

Uzbekistan considers Hungary as long-term and reliable partner in Central and Eastern Europe and pays special attention to strengthening mutual beneficial and multilateral cooperation.

Uzbekistan and Hungary set the most favourable trade regime. Trade turnover between of two states reached US$36.5 million in 2010, including exports – US$8.6 million and imports – US$27.8 million. In eight months of 2011, the figure made up US$23.24 million.

Uzbekistan exports fertilizers, ready textile products, services and goods to Hungary and imports pharmaceutical products, mechanism equipment, other products.

Currently, there are seven enterprises with participation of Hungarian investors, 5 joint ventures and two 100% Hungarian capital. At the same time, five Hungarian companies received accreditation at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade.
