Pakistani businessmen show interest in cooperation with Bukhara region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The khokim of Bukhara Region, Botir Zarifov, held a meeting with a delegation of Pakistani entrepreneurs. The event was also attended by Alisher Tukhtaev, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan; Khalimjon Safarov, Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan; and Bahrom Yusupov, Trade Advisor at the Uzbek Embassy.

Welcoming the guests, Botir Zarifov emphasized that Uzbekistan is actively introducing market mechanisms and removing barriers that hinder business development. He highlighted the country’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign investors as part of its national development strategy.

Over the past eight years, Uzbekistan-Pakistan relations have significantly strengthened, extending beyond trade and economics to cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including the development of pilgrimage tourism. During the discussion, it was noted that Pakistan is one of the world's fastest-growing economies, boasting strong industrial capacity in sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and construction materials.

"For Uzbekistan, which is actively developing these industries, Pakistan’s experience and technologies are of great importance. At the same time, we view Pakistan as a promising partner, given the stable growth of our economy and strong support for foreign investors," Botir Zarifov stated.

The number of foreign-invested enterprises in Bukhara Region has increased fivefold over the past eight years. Currently, more than 450 companies with foreign investment operate in the region, including 12 joint ventures with Pakistani businesses.

In 2024, trade turnover between Bukhara Region and Pakistan reached US$6 million, marking a 60% increase compared to the previous year (US$3.6 million). Exports amounted to US$4.5 million, while imports totaled US$1.5 million.

The number of tourists visiting Uzbekistan—including Bukhara—is also on the rise. In 2024, the country welcomed 1.7 million international visitors, with 1,200 tourists from Pakistan.

"Of course, this number must increase further. We expect growth in tourism, foreign trade, and direct investment. I am confident that today’s meeting marks an important step in that direction," Zarifov added.

The parties discussed the untapped investment potential of the region, exchanged constructive proposals, and Pakistani entrepreneurs expressed interest in joint projects.

Botir Zarifov assured that the khokimiyat of Bukhara Region is open to mutually beneficial cooperation, the development of new projects, and the creation of a favorable business environment. He emphasized that the region offers a free investment climate, with strong legal protections for business activities.

At the conclusion of the negotiations, the parties agreed on specific steps to implement their plans.
