The agency said the country has 2.7 million users in the beginning of 2007 and 5.8 million in the end of that year.

It added that the number of mobile users rose by 3 million users or 50% to reach 9 million users in six months of 2008. The mobile penetration rate in Uzbekistan made up 33.33%.

The agency said the mobile users’ number could reach 12 million to the beginning of 2008 if the current growth rate kept.

Currently, five mobile operators are working in Uzbekistan and MTS-Uzbekistan is the largest mobile company in terms of number of users. Other players of the market are Beeline, Ucell, Perfectum Mobile and Uzbektelecom Mobile.
