The Agency for Communication and Information of Uzbekistan said on its website that the number of mobile users doubled in 2007 to reach 5.8 million as of 1 January 2007.

The agency said the number of mobile users rose by 3.1 million in 2007 compared to 1.5 million in 2006.

The regulator noted that the mobile users’ number reached 6 million-point in the first decade of January 2008.

Currently, five mobile communication operators work in Uzbekistan. Three of them - MTS-Uzbekistan, Beeline and Coscom - work in GSM standard and other two - Perfectum Mobile and Uzbektelecom Mobile operate CDMA network.
