Over 5.9 million citizens vote in Uzbekistan’s parliamentary elections

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  As of 11:00 a.m., over 5.9 million citizens have cast their ballots in Uzbekistan’s elections for the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local councils of deputies.

According to Uzbekistan’s Central Election Commission, out of the 19.94 million registered voters, over 5.9 million have participated, representing 29.58% turnout by 11:00 a.m.

Five political parties are participating in the elections: the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People – Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish,” the Ecological Party, the People’s Democratic Party, and the Social Democratic Party “Adolat.”

In total, 5,770 district and 11,028 precinct election commissions have been established, including 57 polling stations across 40 countries abroad.

The voting process is ongoing, with polling stations set to close at 8:00 p.m.

It is worth noting that, for the first time, the elections are being held under a mixed majoritarian-proportional system: of the 150 seats in the Legislative Chamber, 75 deputies will be elected through single-member districts, while the remaining 75 will be filled based on party-list votes from a single national district.
