Over 5.5 Million Self-Employed Citizens Registered in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 1 July 2025, more than 5.5 million self-employed citizens have been officially registered in Uzbekistan, marking a 56% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the State Tax Committee.
The largest share — over 2.2 million individuals — is engaged in the household services sector. Another approximately 1.5 million self-employed citizens work in agriculture.
Since the beginning of 2025, the number of self-employed taxi drivers has grown significantly, rising by 184,200 to reach a total of 777,100.
The most rapid growth was observed in the information and communications technology sector, where the number of self-employed individuals increased by 92.3% over the past year, totaling 168,200.
Among the regions, Samarkand Region leads with 593,200 residents holding self-employed status. It is followed by the city of Tashkent with 584,600, and Tashkent Region with 538,800 registered self-employed individuals.
